« Seen from a certain view, these bodies are of four sorts. First, those who circulate without ceasing. Secondly, those who stop occasionally. Finally, those who, unless driven out, never leave the place they have conquered and those, who if driven out, throw themselves on the first free place to remain again immobile. » Beckett. Le dépeupleur.
Sylvain Huc examines every detail of the human form, exploring the surface of the body as a place of language. His work "Sujets" incarnates both bodies that are simply ‘being’ as by Samuel Beckett, and bodies that are filled with a utopian sense, as by Michel Foucault. On stage, five dancers wear nothing ; their skin is a costume that the light absorbs or obscures in infinite variations of their essential nudity ; devoid of any sophistication, the bodies appear to have returned to their ancestral state. Confined in this space, their gestures are rudimentary and their movements instinctive.
Between indifference, curiosity and desire, these inhabited bodies offer us an uninterrrupted flow of perceptions. And therein lies the challenge of this piece: to free oneself from the intellect and abandon oneself to the body.
"The choreographer sees Sujets as «corporal meteorology », with abrupt changes in temperature and atmosphere, in a world where the ambivalences of humanity play out beyond or below good and evil. A field of flesh and desires in which the spectator also becomes absorbed."
